Based in Stuttgart, Mercedes-Benz Arena is the home to VfB Stuttgart. Other sporting events have been held at the venue, such as the European Athletics Championships of 1986, where Yurly Sedykh achieved the world record hammer throw, and the World Athletics Championships of 1993 were also held there. Some notable international matches held at the stadium include Poland vs Argentina, Argentina vs Italy, Poland vs Italy and Sweden vs Poland during the FIFA World Cup in 1974 and England vs Republic of Ireland, Soviet Union vs Italy as part of the FIFA World Cup in 2006.
