The home ground of Ligue 2 team Auxerre is Stade Abbe-Deschamps, in honour of the founder of the team, Ernest-Theodore Deschamps. It has a capacity of 21,379 after various renovations and upgrades. The most recent was in 2010 to meet the requirements of the UEFA to host Champions League matches.
Aside from Auxerre home games, the stadium has hosted several international matches. In 1995, the French national team played Azerbaijan in a UEFA Euro 1996 qualifier and then Georgia In 2007 for a UEFA Euro 2008 qualifier. It also played host to a victorious friendly for the French side against Canada.
Based to the southwest of Auxerre town centre, on the banks of the beautiful River Yonne, the stadium is relatively easy to get to. A walk from the cathedral in Auxerre centre takes roughly 15 minutes, while a walk from the train station on the other side of the Yonne takes a few more minutes. You can also take exit 20 or 19 if you drive to a game and take the A6.
