Founded in 1905, Auxerre is a French team based in Auxerre commune in Burgundy. Despite being such an old team, it only made its debut in Ligue 1 in the 80-81 season but remained a strong contender for the title until the 11-12 season.

Although the team took a while to get to top-flight football in Ligue 1 and has only won one title, they still are a team their rivals need to be wary of. They did, after all, qualify for the Champions League in 2010.

However, they currently play in Ligue 2 after being relegated in the 2022-2023 season, finishing 17th with 35 points.
