Found in Elche, the city that lends its name to the team that calls the stadium its home, Estadio Martinez Valero has a capacity of 31,388, making it the 15th biggest stadium in Spain, as well as the 2nd largest in Valencia. It was opened in 1976 when it replaced Elche's previous stadium, Campo de Altabix.
Elche home games at the stadium are celebrated for their lively and electric atmosphere. Despite the club not always enjoying the most steady times in either Segunda Division or La Liga, they can play a fearsome form of football.
Taking its name from the club’s late president, Manuel Martinez Valero, the stadium has also been used for events such as the 2003 Copa del Rey final and matches during the 1982 FIFA World Cup. One match, in particular, is noteworthy as Hungary beat El Salvador 10-1, the biggest winning margin in history. It was also awarded the Best La Liga Stadium during the 13-14 season by the AFEPE.
