Atletico Madrid have a special place in Spanish footballing history. They play their home games at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. Their main nickname is The Mattresses, which may sound odd but refers to the fact that their red and white stripes resemble mattresses that all of Spain used to have. Their other nickname is interesting, which, when translated, means The Indians and likely has to do with their main rival in Real Madrid, which has the nickname Los Blancos, meaning the Whites.

Little titbits like this add to the rich folklore and history of the team. They are more than just a legend, though, having won 10 La Liga championships and the Copa Del Rey 10 times and then five European titles. A trip to see them is great for any football fan.
