Atalanta, the Serie A Italian football team’s home ground, is known as Gewiss Stadium due to sponsorship reasons. It is based in Bergamo and has a total capacity of 21,747. Initially opened in 1928, it has undergone several different modernisations over the years, with curved stands being added and a roof over the grounds’ main stand.
In addition to all of Atalanta’s home games, it has also played host to various international games, including Italy’s games in the 1996 Summer Olympics qualification game between Turkey and Italy, which Italy won 7 -1 and the international team’s qualifier for EUFA Euros 1988 in which the team beat Malta 5-0. The Serie B team, Albino Leffe, also played at the venue. Funnily enough, when both teams were in Serie B, they met on many occasions.
