Montpellier play their home games at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier. The stadium currently has a maximum capacity of 32,900 and was first opened in 1972. One of the biggest refurbishments of the stadium, as there were many, came when it was selected to be used as one of the venues for games in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. It was expanded to a capacity of 35,000. This was why it was constructed to have its unique 3-tier stand.
The games it hosted during that World Cup included five group matches and a Germany vs Mexico round-of-16 match.
It was again updated in 2000, but was unsuccessful in becoming a venue for the Euro 2016 championships.
Getting to the venue is easy enough as it is based in the far western side of the city, just 6km from the city’s centre and a few more miles from the main train station. When going by car, you should take the A9 motorway and Exit 31 Montpellier Ouest and follow the Crois d’Argent and Mosson until you come to the stadium.
