Stade Louis II is the home ground for Monaco and is based in the Fontvieille district. With a capacity of 16,360, it is the only football stadium in the country due to its small size, which also serves as a venue for other events. It first opened in 1985, and aside from the home games of the Ligue 1 team and the national Monaco team’s games, it has also been used for various important sporting events.
This includes the UEFA Super Cup hosted from 1998 to 2013 and the annual IAAF Diamond League athletics event known as the Herculis. It is named after Louis II, the Prince of Monaco, who was the Sovereign Prince at the time the stadium was built. The football stadium has also hosted several important professional boxing international title fights, including Rocky Lockridge vs. Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr.
