With a modest capacity of 42,100, Weserstadiun was built in 1909 as a more general sports field. It was only used sporadically for matches of the beautiful game. It was in 1930 that Werder Bremen moved to the venue after the first proper-sized stand was built in 1926. Based on the northern bank of Bremen’s river, the Weser River, with lush green parks surrounding it, it is a perfectly idyllic location for a football team’s home games.
As well as football matches by Werder Bremen, it has also played host to many German international friendlies, a UEFA Euro 1980 qualifying game and a 1998 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.
You can take a guided tour of the stadium, including a trip to the VIP areas, press conference room, away dressing room and the Werder Museum. Tours need 10 participants, but only cost 6 euros each.
