RheinEnergieStadion, based in Cologne, is the home ground of 1FC Koln and has a capacity of 50,000 spectators. The stadium won a bronze medal from the International Olympic Committee for its distinguished sporting and leisure facilities.
As well as 1. FC Koln’s home matches, the stadium has played host to various important matches, including the first three first-round games of the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, including the opening match between Tunisia and Argentina. That game was won by Argentina, unsurprisingly, 2-1.
It also has played host to numerous UEFA Cup matches, including Borussia Monchengladbach against Monaco and Arsenal, Galatasaray against Monaco, and Bayer Leverkusen against Barcelona. Furthermore, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the UEFA Europa League Final of 2020 was moved to the RheinEnergieStadion from Stadion Energa Gdansk. The play happened behind closed doors without spectators and featured Inter Milan taking on Sevilla, with Sevilla winning 3-2.
