Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, formerly known as the Stadio San Paolo, is the home ground for Naples FC and with a capacity of 54,726 spectators, it is the 4th biggest stadium in Italy, just behind the San Nicola, Stadio Olimpico, and San Siro. It was initially built between 1948 and 1959 and opened the same year. Renovations were carried out on the venue from 1989 to 1990 and in 2019.
The name is an obvious tribute to one of the biggest names to play for Napoli, the late and great Argentinian legend Diego Maradona. It played host to five games during the 1990 World Cup, including Argentina’s 1st 2 group B matches, Cameroon's round-of-16 game, and their quarter-final with England. A curious fact about the venue is that even though Napoli was still in Serie C1, they achieved the 3rd biggest average home attendance in all Italian football during the 2005-2006 season.
