The home of Atletico Madrid is the 68,465-capacity Metropolitano Stadium which has been rebranded as Civitas Metropolitano due to sponsorship reasons. Located within the Rosas neighbourhood in San Blas-Canillejas, it was originally built as part of the city’s bid to host the World Athletic Championships in 1997. It first opened its doors in 1994 but was then closed in 2004, after the city failed to win their bid for the 2016 Olympics. In 2013 its ownership then passed to Atletico Madrid. Since then, the stadium has been renovated and was reopened in 2017, with the first match being played between Atletico Madrid and Malaga.
The stadium is noted for its lively atmosphere, with the home team supporters putting on a verbal show of support for their favourite footballers. In 2019, the stadium also hosted the UEFA Champions League Final.
