Originally founded in 1919, Salernitana is an Italian professional football team competing in Serie A. Although the team played in Serie D after reconstituting for a third time, in 2011-12, it has steadily made its way back up the ranks and is finally in Serie A again for the 2022-2023 season.
The team originally wore a strip of white and light blue shirts, referred to as Biancocelesti in Italy, with the blue representing the sea, as Salerno is based by the beautiful Gulf of Salerno and is a city that has the tradition of being a port. Its colours changed, however, to garnet-coloured, and its nickname changed to Granata. This changed again when they had similar colours to Barça, striped deep red and blue, but it changed to garnet again recently.
