Founded in 1920, Empoli is an Italian football team that competes in Serie A. An interesting fact about Empoli is that they are one of the Italian clubs that compete in top-flight football and do not belong to the provincial capital city. The team has never won the Serie A championship but has won the Serie B in 2004-05, 2017-18, and 2020-21 and Serie C1 in 1928-29, and 1982-83. The team also won Coppa Italia Serie C in 1995-96.

Although the team have not had the best success in European competitions, it did reach the first round of the UEFA Cup in 2007-08, in which they played Zurich and won the home game 2-1 and lost the away game 0-3, meaning that Zurich won on aggregate 2-4.
