Ajaccio
Football Club

Athletic Club Ajaccio, more commonly known as Ajaccio, is a team formed in 1910. Nicknamed L’ours, or The Bears, the team called Stade Francois Coty its home grounds. Before the team became professional in 1965, they played in the Corsican Cup and League and had strong rivals with the two other big island teams, Bastia and Gazelec Ajaccio. Their fans are known for their passion.

The rivalry was so intense that during the Corsican Cup Final of 1946, fans of both AC Ajaccio and Bastia were handed umbrellas to protect against violence. However, violence erupted when the referee refused to award a penalty to Ajaccio.

It was in 1967 when the team broke into the professional league. Before their promotion again to Ligue 1 in the 2021-2022 Ligue 2 season, the team had reached top-flight French football in the 2013-2014 season and stayed there for three seasons. However, currently they play in Ligue 2 after being relegated in the 2022-2023 season, finishing 18th with 26 points.
