Arena Auf Schalke, or Veltins-Arenas as its currently known for sponsorship reasons, is an indoor stadium that acts as the home ground for FC Schalke 04. It has a total capacity of 62,271 for league matches played there and 54,740 when international matches are played there.
It is one of the few stadiums in the world with both a retractable pitch and a retractable roof. In addition to the home games of Schalke, the venue was also used for numerous games during the FIFA World Cup in 2006, including group matches between Poland and Ecuador, United States and Czech Republic, Argentina and Serbia and Montenegro, Portugal and Mexico, and England and Portugal. The latter being one of the quarter-finals.
It was also the host for the UEFA Champions League final for the 2004 season, and while Rheinstadion in Dusseldorf was renovated, it served as home for the NFL Europe team Rhein Fire.
