A multipurpose stadium, Power Horse Stadium, was inaugurated in 2004 and was specifically built with the Mediterranean Games of 2005 in mind. It cost 21m euros and replaced Estadio Municipal Juan Rojas as Almeria’s home ground. Originally it had a capacity of 15,274. This was upgraded and expanded to 21,350 when the team was promoted to La Liga.
The stadium is located around 2 km from Almeria’s main railway station and a little further away from the city centre. However, it is still easy to access from the bus Line 7 and the railway station, if you don’t fancy taking the car. Despite having a smaller capacity than a lot of the stadiums of the bigger teams in La Liga, the atmosphere during Almeria home games is still electric. Notably, the stadium hosted Spain vs San Marino when they won 5 – 0 to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2006.
