Based in the French city of Reims, Reims is a football club in Ligue 1 founded in 1910. Like many of their rivals, they have a sterling history in French football. They have 5 Trophee des Champions, 2 Coupe de France trophies, and 6 Ligue 1 titles. Earlier in the club’s history, the team fared much better in Europe, having been runners-up in the 1956 and 159 European Cup and winning the Coppa delle Alpi in 1977 and the Latin Cup in 1953.
After they were relegated from Ligue 1 in 1979, they have continued to jump between the Championnat National and Ligue 2. It was only in 2012 that they were promoted again, to be relegated in 2016, and then came back to Ligue 1 in 2018. Notably, Reims were hugely responsible for the first so-called Golden Age of French Football, with players in their ranks like Roger Piantoni, Dominique Colonna, Armand Penverne, Robert Jonquent, Jean Vincent, Just Fontaine, Raymond Kopa, and Roger Marche. All of them were in the French international squad that made it to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 1958.
