Cadiz, based in the Andalusian city of the same name, has been competing in La Liga since it was established in 1910. Home games are played at Neuvo Mirandilla. Between 1929 and 1977, the team was found in either the second or third divisions of Spanish football, and they achieved promotion to La Liga in 1977. They then went on to play 14 seasons at that same level over the next forty years, only spending some time in the second division.

Perhaps the most famous player to wear their shirt was Magico Gonzalez, who played for the team during the 80s and 90s.

One of their fiercest rivalries is with Xerez, referred to as Derbi Gaditano.

While they may not be as widely known as other La Liga teams, they have a uniquely aggressive attacking game through the flanks and have a strong love for long balls.
